It could happen wherever you live. In fact, it will happen. It’s only a matter of time, before its your turn— some totally unexpected horrific disaster will strike you, your loved ones, everyone you know will suffer terribly, and many will die.

Port-au-Prince has been flattened. The sliding crust that we live on, Earth’s skin, has slipped again.
Haiti, the impoverished little island nation, home of the first successful slave revolution, and the first true democracy in the region.
At least 50,000 bodies lie decaying in the rubble. And, for those who live, every minute is a hell— death everywhere, screams filling the air, a stench like creeping death itself, and no water or food or medical help.
But there is a vast army of help on the way, already arriving in Haiti’s wretched disaster area around its capitol. Thousands of course will be soldiers, brave professionals doing the hard physical work, facing the horrors of so much tragedy. President Obama has pledged $100 million in emergency aid, and 5,500 U.S. troops.

But who leads this army of aid-workers? Who are the true professionals of disaster relief? Grads in Humanitarian Relief Studies.
